How to Find the Right Small Group Leader

Jul 26, 2017

After a long summer, many small groups are about to start back up again. Tons of people are already plugged into a great group, but what if you’re still searching for the right small group leader?

Having the right leader can completely transform your small group experience, so it’s an important decision.

Here are some things to look for in the perfect small group leader:

  1. Find a leader that has the time (and willingness) to devote to leading. You want someone who will be available to help you when you need it, and someone you can count on to make it to every gathering.
  2. Find someone you feel comfortable with. Never settle for a leader if you don’t connect and feel comfortable sharing with them. In order to get the most out of small group, you want to be able to open up and be honest without fear of rejection, judgement, or misunderstanding.
  3. Your first conversation says a lot about your leader. If he or she is someone who immediately clicks with you and shows an interest in what you have to say, you’ve found the one. If he or she seems disconnected or hesitant to share, you may want to rethink this leader.
  4. Seek authenticity. An authentic leader makes all the difference. You should be able to see if someone is putting on a front from the first time you meet them.
